So, if you are that kind of awesome person that is sending me a package... lets say, full of cookies perhaps, then it cannot be sent to my house. This is because Detroit is full of cookie monsters that like to take things left on doorsteps. In this case, please send to my work:
Jessica Beckwith
AmeriCorps*NCCC/Cedar 3
7700 2nd Ave Suite 314
Detroit, Mi 48202
However, if you are just sending letters, they can be sent to the house:
Jessica Beckwith
AmeriCorps*NCCC/Cedar 3
3004 E Grand Blvd
Detroit, MI 48202
Sweet...
So Im on my third day if tax training, and it is well, taxing. I really had no idea how much went into it, and it is so hard. Blah. I really hope I do not mess anyone's taxes up!
Our house is pretty cool though! Our Unit leader keeps telling us that we are spoiled since other teams are sleeping in trailers and church floors and so far we have been given two houses to stay in. This one is even bigger than the last one. It has 3 floors and a basement, washer $ dryer, two living rooms, a dining room with (get this...) a mirrored ceiling, two fire places, a library, and my favorite part: one of those laundry shoots where I can drop my clothes into this thing on the second floor and in falls into the basement near the washing machine. Haha, it does not take much to make me smile!
Next week we are doing community service on MLK day (or as it is better known as Mr. Jeff's Birthday Extravaganza!) and then starting our work with the clients. Wish me luck!

Detroit, Deeeeeetroooooooooooit!
Hello all! I have just made it back up to Iowa today! I'm going to be here for a week and then they are shipping me off to Detroit. I thought I would do a quick update on who exactly I would be working for.
I will be volunteering for the Accounting Aid Society who provide tax assistance and promote the economic self-sufficiency of low and moderate income families, seniors, and others in need through volunteerism and partnerships. During the past 37 years, Accounting Aid has evolved into southeast Michigan’s leader in providing Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) services for low and moderate income households, assisting over 13,600 in 2009.
So there you have it!
As Tigger would say, TTFN! (Ta ta for now)
